User Experience (UX) Architect
My journey to User Experience (UX) has been a natural one. I've always had an interest in the psychology behind human-computer interaction and the engineering behind computers. I graduated from DePauw University with a double major in computer science and creative writing. I have gained over 10 years of experience working in agency environments, as a full-time freelancer, and as part of start-up product teams. In 2015 I was the lead UX architect for Neil Young's successful Kickstarter high fidelity music store start-up, PonoMusic.com.
In 2012 I completed the User Experience Design course at Chicago's The Starter League taught by UX guru and author Carolyn Chandler. In 2013 I co-founded and launched a web application for professional photographers called B Selects (no longer in active development). I've also worked on various start-up products for Mightybytes' product incubator such as EcoGrader.com.
Besides my web development and UX work, I've also dabbled in filmmaking as a screenwriter and director. My films are some of my proudest work because of the intense collaboration between artists on each project (over 40 cast and crew members on each set). I use many filmmaking concepts in UX design as I see the interactive design process as a similar process of pre-production, production, and post-production. Every interactive project is different and requires a unique, custom UX process, much like filmmaking! I also enjoy writing about technology on the web and traveling as much as I can.
